Organic Living… what is it anyway?

Updated: Jul 13, 2020

What does it mean to live organically? It’s not just something one buys, it’s a lifestyle. It’s a way of living that focuses on the health and environment of the individual. When one decides to live an organic lifestyle, that person decides to embrace a balanced lifestyle. We as humans are apart of the natural world and what we do can affect it. As the originator of our environments, organic living touches every aspect of life; our own and life on this planet.

Organic living means living responsibly by doing and using things responsibly in order to ensure we maintain a healthy and beautiful place to live. This begins at home and with us.

To live intelligently and naturally, organic living involves more than the food we eat but encompasses the very way we live at home. Using sustainable products for all the areas we live and move helps one to truly begin to have a holistic organic lifestyle. This isn’t something that is easy, as I and many others can attest to, as we are often bombarded with mixed messages in everything we do and buy. We purchase soap to clean ourselves and our homes, and yet a lot of products include additives that are harmful not only to our bodies but can have effects down to the cellular level. Unbeknownst to the average consumer, our products can contain harmful chemicals, and while they might kill germs, they also can harm our bodies and even the air we breathe.

This blog for those of us that would like to begin the journey to live organically. To find resources and people who can help support and provide the products that can support this lifestyle change. Living organically doesn’t stop at the food we consume but includes our homes and how we take care of our body as an important way to ensure we stay healthy. Some very easy areas to begin the transformation include finding and using products that can help stay balanced:

Organic Food: According to, finding foods that are “organic produce and other ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones.”

Organic Household Products: Finding products that are toxin-free. Take a look at article on “8 Hidden Toxins: What’s Lurking in Your Cleaning Products?” There are many products that are popular with dangerously toxic ingredients, by finding ways to eliminate the use of these products, one can reduce the risk of the dangerous side effects on the body and environment in which you live.

Organic Soaps and Skin-care products: synthetic or toxic products are on the shelf, many of which can cause or exasperate many health issues. Using soaps and skin-care products that are full of all-natural botanicals and essential oils is one of the best ways to care for your skin and one of the easiest ways to safeguard against unnecessary chemicals that could affect your health. Using Organic soaps and skin-care products can ensure you can maintain a healthy glow while ensuring your skin is kept clean and as germ-free as possible.

Living Organically doesn’t have to be an all or nothing exercise, it can be gradual, or as selective as one would like. Even if you would like to live a completely organic lifestyle it can take time, replacing one piece or area at a time can ensure you are on your way to the quality of life you want and as each step improves so will your attitude towards your life and environment.
